Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

The birth of Ava DuVernay was on the 24th day of August 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay discovered her love for art through her aunt Denise. She was night nurses to afford her aunt the time she needed throughout the day for the love of art, literature, as well as theatre. She went to the University of California Los Angeles for a degree in English and African American Studies. DuVernay began to develop an interest in the field of broadcast journalism while a student. She started as an intern with CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given an assignment to watch the house and examining the garbage belonging to one of juries. In the course of her duties she was dissatisfied with journalism, and shifted into the publicity business. DuVernay found a job immediately after college as a publicist in the young age of a studio. Her private PR company, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. The company launched a number of lifestyle and promotion networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
