Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio
Alexandra Rose Raisman was born on May 25, 1994. She is a retired American artistic gymnast. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five", and"Fierce Five" in 2016 "Final Five,"" U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She received an Olympic gold medal for team competitions during the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas who was on her team also won gold. Raisman also earned silver medals in the individual all around and floor exercises. She is the 3rd most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles with six Olympic medals.Raisman was also on the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the world bronze medalist on floor exercise in the year 2011. She is also a two-time national champion on floor exercise (2012 and 2015) and the 2012 champion of the national team on balance beam, and she has won five medals in the all-around event at the national championships (silver in 2016, bronze in 2010, 2012 and 2011, as well as 2012, and in 2015). In 2013, she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school as well as Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of satisfaction in being able not only represent the U.S.A and the Jewish community all over the world. "Raisman began gymnastics when was eighteen months old. She credits her passion for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's group that won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8, and then transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club, where she was trained by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year online courses while training for the Olympics.
